Living Vicariously As A Peripatetic Shutterbug

A beautiful day

It’s been way too long, but finally I have something worthy to blog.

It’s said that 2015 was the hottest year in history, and in our neck of the woods it has truly been sweltering at the beginning of 2016. I spent a week in the Western Cape where I don’t think they remember what rain looks like. Granted, winter is their rainy season, and we are very much in the middle of summer, but a bit of rain to break the heatwave would have been very welcome.

Some, which was forecast for Saturday, never materialised, and so we decided to go for a pleasant little walk in Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden in Cape Town. Unfortunately proteas aren’t blooming but there was much to appreciate (and photograph.)

Kirstenbosch was founded in 1913, on the eastern slopes at the foot of Table Mountain. It was founded to preserve the country’s unique flora, especially plants native to the Cape. Despite its popularity with locals and tourists alike, it never feels crowded, even on the busiest of days. At first I didn’t bother with my camera, just enjoying the moment, but it just seemed criminal not to let my macro lens loose on the place.

Enjoy the beauty.

If I wasn’t living in SA I’d feel a big lump of nostalgia after those pics!

You should have hung around, it rained all night Sunday and into Monday morning. ‘Twas glorious.
