Water, water everywhere

Yesterday I went up to Ambohidratrimo to finally register as a foreigner here in Madagascar, the first step in the long-term visa process. On the way I glimpsed this road out to the west, complete with street lights, but which seemed to be under water.

I did a bit of research on the web to see if I could find it, and then today, in the short break between rain storms, I went out to actually find it (which is more difficult than you would imagine because there are no road signs or signposts).

Here, two photos from different perspectives of the road, which leads to a luxury villa compound.

Looking right from the road, the rice paddies have been replaced by a massive (but shallow) lake. This old guy was ferrying people to and fro, and making more money than he would have with his regular job, fishing.
